|Modernity and Realism Pt 1 Becoming Modern|
This series on Modern Art will be presented by Dr. Parme Giuntini, Director of Art History at Otis College of Art and Design. She will discuss the movements and ideas that changed our views on art and art making. She will begin with Realism in France around 1850 and finish in New York City in the mid-20th century with Abstract Expressionism. This chapter more than just looking at paintings and sculpture, introduces the viewer. Dr. Giuntini will be explaining what it really means to be Modern, why it arose in Europe, what the latest theories and philosophies were, and how this affected the artists.
